The Ministry of Health of the Gaza Strip reported this Saturday (01/04/2024) that the total number of deaths in the devastated Palestinian enclave rose to 45,717, and the number of wounded to 108,856 since the start of the fighting with the Israeli Army. The figures are offered by this organization, controlled by Hamas (a group considered terrorist by the EU), and are considered reliable by the United Nations.
The Palestinian authorities insist on remembering that the real figures are undoubtedly higher, since they do not include the thousands of missing people who remain under the rubble without being able to be rescued due to the lack of heavy machinery, among other reasons. The ministry's daily tally adds that in the last 24 hours, Israeli bombings have killed at least 59 people and wounded 273.
Since this Thursday, the Israeli Army has struck with greater intensity and without rest all corners of the Strip, but with greater emphasis in the north. The same dynamic is being carried out by the forces deployed by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu this Saturday, whose attacks have killed nearly 30 people since this morning, according to several Palestinian channels, citing medical sources.
In the Shujaiya neighborhood alone, east of Gaza City, eleven civilians lost their lives after Israeli planes bombed a house, reports the official Palestinian news agency, Wafa. Israeli soldiers also blew up residential buildings in the Jabalia camp in the besieged north of the Strip, a place that fighter jets later also attacked.
In addition, five people, including security personnel and private companies, were killed in an Israeli attack on a vehicle in Khan Younis, south of the Strip. The Israeli Army, for its part, reported this Saturday that its troops continue operating in the north and that in the last week they destroyed a complex in the Beit Hanoun area, where Hamas commanders "entrenched themselves."
In a statement, the Army explained that this complex served "as a terrorist center" and that it contained anti-tank firing positions, booby traps, wells and numerous explosives. The conflict began in October 2023, when Hamas launched an unprecedented attack against Israel.
