At least 100 Gazans, including minors, have been killed in the Gaza Strip following 24 hours of intense Israeli attacks that have struck the devastated Palestinian enclave from north to south, medical sources confirmed.
“Yesterday's situation was difficult, especially in Gaza City, where the city faced a new type of operations.
Ninety percent of yesterday's attacks were assassinations and killings of citizens,” civil defense spokesman Mahmoud Bassal told EFE.
The Israeli army relentlessly shelled the Gaza Strip throughout Thursday, especially Gaza City, where more than 40 people were killed, according to Bassal.
“It was crazy and, unfortunately, the medical system here was hit hard because it is in a difficult situation. Doctors had to work with a policy of comparison, which means whoever holds out the longest will be treated first,” he adds.
On Friday morning, the army continued shelling the enclave and killed at least 12 people, according to the official Palestinian news agency, Wafa.
Among the victims was photojournalist Omar Salah Al Derawi who was killed along with his parents after Israeli shelling in the Al Zawaida area in the central Gaza Strip.
The death of this Al Derawi brings the total number of journalists killed by the Israeli offensive to 202, according to the Hamas-controlled enclave's Health Ministry count.
“We call on the International Federation of Journalists, the Federation of Arab Journalists and all journalistic bodies in all countries of the world to condemn these systematic crimes against Palestinian journalists and media professionals in the Gaza Strip,” the enclave's government demands in a statement.
Also on Friday, four other Gazans were killed after the army attacked a house and a tent in Deir Al Balah, the center of the enclave.
The director of the Palestinian NGO Network, Amjad Shawa, warns that this is “one of the most critical stages of the war” because the army has again intensified its attacks.
“We have more than 25,000 patients with chronic diseases such as cancer who urgently need to be evacuated from Gaza because of the collapse of the health system,” he lamented.
