The Israeli negotiating delegation has presented to the mediators in Doha a new proposal based on the release of "all" Israeli hostages held in Gaza in exchange for the release of an "agreed number" of Palestinian prisoners, a source informed EFE this Wednesday. of Hamas.

The document stipulates the establishment of a "permanent truce that leads to a lasting ceasefire, the withdrawal of Israeli troops from Gaza and the comprehensive rehabilitation of the Strip," according to the source of the Palestinian Islamist group, who asked to remain anonymous. .

"It states that the main objective of an agreement is to release all Israeli detainees, whether civilians or soldiers, living or dead, who have been held by Hamas at any time, in exchange for the release of an agreed number of Palestinian prisoners." in the prisons of the occupation," he noted.

He explained that, under this proposal, the Israeli Army will withdraw from the center of Gaza, including the Netzarim corridor, which isolates it from the rest of the enclave of Gaza City and those located further north (Jabalia, Beit Lahia and Beit Hanoun), in addition to dismantling Israeli military posts in the area.

Regarding the stages of the agreement, he stressed that in a "first phase the live hostages will be released, starting with the women (...) three women on the first day" of the entry into force of the proposed pact, "another four on the seventh day and , then, three women every seven days. The rest will be released gradually.

"According to the document, Hamas must present, on the seventh day, a list of (Palestinian) prisoners who will be released in the first phase of the agreement," added the same source.

He also highlighted that "Israel calls for the departure from Gaza of at least 50 Hamas military leaders, a step that tends to reduce their ability to threaten Israel's security, according to the document."

On the other hand, he stated that the proposal includes "several phases for the reconstruction of Gaza (...) and accommodation for those affected by the war (...) possibly some 60,000 caravans and 200,000 tents will be transported to house the families who lost their homes."

"The second phase of the agreement includes the permanent cessation of military operations by all parties (...), within the framework of a" complete calm in the region," he concluded.

The source did not disclose more details about this proposal, which coincides with information from the parties about the positive atmosphere in which the indirect negotiations are taking place in Doha, with the mediation of Qatar, Egypt and the United States.

Some media do not rule out that Steve Witkoff, chosen by the elected president of the United States, Donald Trump, as his special envoy for the Middle East, joins the negotiations in Doha to promote dialogue.

Trump warned again on Tuesday that "hell will break out in the Middle East" if Hamas does not release the hostages before he takes power on January 20.

In fifteen months of war, which has caused more than 45,800 deaths in the Strip, the parties only achieved a one-week truce agreement, at the end of November 2023, in which 105 hostages were exchanged for 240 Palestinian prisoners, in addition to stop the fighting.

Of the 251 hostages that Hamas took captive on October 7, 96 remain inside the Strip - 34 of them confirmed dead -; while 117 have survived - only 8 in military operations - and 38 bodies have been rescued by troops in the enclave.
